Building Strong Boards: Elevating Parent Voices with Charter Board Partners and PAVE
This fall and spring, Charter Board Partners and PAVE (Parents Amplifying Voices in Education) are partnering to host a series of trainings called “Building Strong Boards: Elevating Parent Voices” – an opportunity to provide school leaders, Board Chairs, and parent board members with the information, support, resources, and training to amplify the role of parents on charter school boards.
Every DC charter school is required to have two parent board members on the Board of Directors. PAVE and Charter Board Partners will create space for school leaders, Board Chairs, and parent board members to engage in conversations about how parent board members can play an active and high impact role on our charter school boards. The trainings will also highlight the importance of parent board members on DC charter school boards, as parents are critical partners and strategic voices in the work to build great schools for every child in every community. During these trainings, parent board members will also be able to connect to one another for support, networking, and sharing strategies and ideas.
We hosted our first two events in the fall on Friday, November 3rd and on Saturday, November 4th.
The trainings opened with a breakfast and included sessions on governance and elevating parent voice. Board Chairs and parent board members closed the trainings by providing feedback about what information and tools parent board members want to learn, and what supports Board Chairs need in terms of selecting, engaging, and supporting parent board members.
