Our Community: Families

When parents are able to share their voices together, children win.

To move DC toward high-quality schools for all children, it is critical to bring a coordinated network of parent voices together to advocate on behalf of what is best for all children.

The power of parents is that they are the constituents of elected officials and policymakers, whose job is to be responsive to the needs, concerns, and demands of the communities that they represent. The promise of parents is that they don’t care whether a public school is charter or traditional; they care about the best school for their children.

Unfortunately, parents in both sectors have, in general, been disengaged from DC’s education policy conversations because they have not been asked to engage and have not been provided with an organization to help them successfully elevate their voices – until now, until PAVE.

We envision a DC education system that is made up of great schools supported by policy that advances equity and excellence for all children – and we know that our city cannot make this a reality without parents.
